THE SHARDOW FAMILY CHIEFTAINCY TIMELINE

CHIEF ZUBEIRU SHARDOW MULEH

1872 to 1922

The patriarch of the Shardow Family. He was a devout Muslim and community leader.

He died in 1922 and was suirvived by nine children:

Suleiman, Essa, Lantana, Maidauka, Hadiza, Braimah,

Alhassan, Mairiga and Iddirisu.

           CHIEF SULEIMAN SHARDOW

                         1922 to 1934

He was the first son of Chief Zubeiru Shardow.

He was very progressive for his time. With the influence, support and financial resources of his step-mother, Ankpa Glover Shardow and her brother Abubakar Titus Glover, he encouraged the Shardow household to embrace western education in addition to the traditional Koranic instruction.

He was a printer by profession and was an employee of the Government Printing Press.

CHIEF ESSA SHARDOW

         1934 TO 1958

 He was the second oldest son of Chief Zubeiru Shardow and the younger brother of Chief Suleiman Shardow. He was a linguist and became an interpreter in the High court a position that carried a lot of influence in those days. He was also a champion jockey, a past-time that made him very popular. His daughter, Amina Shardow was the first female in the Shardow family to be enrolled in school. Until this time, females were only permitted to attend  traditional Koranic schools.

           CHIEF BRAIMAH BEJINAH SHARDOW

                         1958 to 1990

           ALHAJI NDAJIA SHARDOW

           ALHAJI SURA SHARDOW

       DEPUTY CHIEF 1976 to 1990

Chief BB Shardow was the third oldest son of Chief Zubeiru Shardow and the younger brother of Chiefs Suleiman and Essa Shardow. He became the longest reigning chief and family head, occupying the position for thirty-two years. He worked at the Government Printing Press Accra. In view of the growing size of the family and resultant increased responsibilities a deputy chief was appointed for the first time to assist him.

           CHIEF SURA SHARDOW

                    1990  to 1993

           ALHAJI ZUBEIRU SHARDOW

           DEPUTY CHIEF 1990 to 1993

Chief Sura Shardow  was the son of Chief Suleiman Shardow and nephew of Chief BB Shardow.

He worked at the Government Printing Press and later on was elected Councilor of his constituency during the Dr. Busia regime in 1969.

           CHIEF ZUBEIRU SHARDOW

                  1993 to 1996

           ALHAJI YUSIF SHARDOW

       DEPUTY CHIEF 1993 to 1996

  Chief Zubeiru Shardow was the son of Chief Suleiman Shardow and the younger brother of Chief Sura Shardow

He was an Islamic Scholar and polictician, and once held the position of National Organizer of the Ghana Young Pioneers during the Dr. Kwame Nkrumah regime. He also held a managerial post in Japan Motors Ltd.

           CHIEF YUSIF SHARDOW

                 1996 to 2013

      ALHAJI BILYAMINU SHARDOW

       DEPUTY CHIEF 1996 to 2013

  Chief Yusif Shardow was the eldest son of Chief BB Shardow. He was a career public servant who retired from the Ghana Prisons Service.

      CHIEF BILYAMINU SHARDOW

                   2013 to 2014

      ALHAJI MAIDA SHARDOW

      ALHAJI SHISU SHARDOW

         DEPUTY CHIEF 2014

  Chief Bilyaminu Shardow was the youngest son of Chief Suleiman Shardow and the brother of Chiefs Sura and Zubeiru Shardow. He was a professional master tailor who trained in London, UK in the late 1950's.

  Chief Shisu Shardow was the second son of Chief BB Shardow and the younger brother of Chief  Yusif Shardow. He was a retired crane operator.
